| Know your funding source: Savings, Loan, Credit Cards. Include interest or loss of interest, in your costs. Add at least 15% to your planned costs for contingencies. Decide whether you will live in your house during renovations: You may decide to rent a trailer to place on your property. Include the cost of the rental in your costs. Also, check with local and town ordinancepertaining to placing a temporary trailer on your property.
Use a spreadsheet to track estimated and actual costs
Plan diligently ahead of time to avoid costly add-ons as the project progresses. The add-ons are what adds to the unexpected costs in a project. Know before you get started, speak to qualified professionals: architects, interior designers, local and town agencies. |
